Sports update 3/14

Wrestling

Brighton High School’s sophomore wrestler Sabrina Nauss became the first girl to win a Michigan High School Championship. Brighton also had another athlete become a state champion this last Saturday: wrestler Aiden Smith, senior. This makes Brighton have an active streak of Boys Wrestling Champions for the fourth year in a row. 

Basketball

Brighton’s Girl Basketball has been on a winning streak recently beating South Lyon (18-2) with the final score of 59-53 in the semifinals. In the Championship game against Dexter (19-2) it was a close one. With the final seconds of the game dexter ties the game ending it into overtime. In overtime Brighton overcame Dexter and beat them by scoring 8 points. Doing this meant that the Girls Basketball team has won districts for the 4th year in a row.

Hockey

Brighton’s Boys Varsity Hockey team (21-5) ranked #2 played Grandville (20-7-1) ranked #4 on Friday night in the semifinals, winning and advancing to the State Championship game. Brighton lost Saturday’s Championship game 5-1 to Detroit Catholic Central
