Single Barrel Social does not disappoint

A review of a new Brighton restaurant

A new restaurant just outside of downtown Brighton opened this Fall.Single Barrel Social, located on Grand River Avenue, fills what was one of Brighton’s staple Mexican restaurants, Border Cantina.

Residents probably noticed some commotion on Grand River over the summer. This is the result of some big changes by the new owner. Having put almost $5 million into the building, the appearance of the staggering chandelier from the road is hard to miss. The building is inviting and unique, and the inside doesn’t disappoint either. There is a very modern yet rustic decor and impressive attention to detail. The layout and placement is slightly crowded and choppy, with the long elegant bar being right at the door with booth seating down the sides of the building. The stage is directly in the middle, creating a divide between the high ceiling and beautiful chandelier and the second bar.

I noticed the menu is mostly Mexican themed and has a very wide variety of food, ranging from a Mixed Beet Salad and Stuffed Dates to Spice Rubbed Lamb Tips and Poached cold water lobster tacos. There’s definitely something for everyone on this menu.

I chose to order the Southwest Salad. The ingredients were fresh and light. I paired it with their Colifor and Pollo Verde Tacos, which were smaller than I expected for a Mexican themed restaurant. The service really tied together the whole experience, the waiter was extremely courteous and attentive as well as polite. Overall I believe Single Barrel will create a new and different experience to Brighton.
